John Schmitz Runs as Independent Candidate for Mayor of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, February 2, 2019 — Candidate John Schmitz announced his decision to run as an independent candidate for Mayor of Indianapolis during his first town hall meeting this evening. After much prayer and a long discerning process, as well as talking with many residents of Indianapolis, John believes that now is the time for a non-party candidate who is willing to work hard for this city. “It is time to have a Mayor who is truly for the people of Indianapolis and who is not tied to party politics as usual. I have a heart for this city, and that means also supporting the candidates that I believe in based on their ethics, a platform of initiatives, and ability to do the job, not based on their party affiliation. As an independent candidate, I will be able to run my campaign based on what I believe is right and what is truly ‘doing something’ to make Indianapolis a better city.”
John is a non-establishment candidate and business owner. He is choosing to run on his own terms with a vision and platform that encourages people to get involved, create change, become engaged in their communities, and inspire the citizens of Indianapolis to ‘Do Something’ to make a difference where they live, work and play.
John’s formal announcement was made at The Maywood Tavern on Saturday, February 2, 2019. The Maywood Tavern has its place in history in Indianapolis as being the second oldest bar in the city. It also has the oldest single-family liquor license in the state of Indiana.
John’s grassroots campaign will focus on 4 critical areas for our city; Homelessness, Addiction, Crime, and Roads. John has already started work in one of these areas, collaborating with organizations who are serving the homeless population in Indianapolis to create conversation around combining efforts. He has helped to facilitate communications among groups that have previously not worked together and has created an organization called “Outside Indy” to focus on the key initiatives that these organizations feel are paramount to addressing this issue; Housing, Education, Training, Mentorship, and Wellness.
