What's on your mind?

September 17, 2016 Danville, IN—Random thoughts as I heard two commercials... mind you I'm just learning what my beliefs are and the more I learn and grow they change or grow more solid. You know I quit watching tv over a year ago. I quit listening to the radio a few years ago. I've watched a little tv in the past year but maybe a whole 10 to 20 hours and two short series on Netflix. Commercials bother me. It seems the focus is always on we have to buy more stuff so we can be enough. I just happened to have the radio on this morning for a brief minute and caught two commercials...one stating that buying gas from a certain company would bring freedom and another saying women can conquer the world if they are dressed nicely. Living in the modern world with all these modern conveniences I am beginning to believe we are more dependent than independent. If fuel ran out, electricity got cut off, water pipes broke, central air/heat quit working, etc, would the majority know how to be self-sufficient or would fear set in and would we see more violence and people looting because we do not have the skills to grow our own food, live off the land, and come together to help each other. Commercials, I think, tell us we aren't enough how we are. I struggle with this "not enough" issue but since I've quit listening to commercials and watching tv I've been able to shed some of that need for the material stuff that never fills that void I feel. Stuff will never make me enough because enough comes from loving myself and becoming spiritual. I think this country has a huge spiritual void, and we all try to fill it in our own ways. We are divided and unfulfilled. The world seems to be falling deeper into darkness, and it seems as if we all just turn a blind eye and think it's not my issue and go about our lives, making money, focusing on things that in the grand scheme of things may not even matter if we keep on as we are. I think we have been placed in a place of dependence that brings fear to stand up against the powers that be and demand change. I really don't think we are free....it's a false freedom we believe in.
